Ms. Smith received her A.A.S. in nursing from the State University of New York at Alfred in 1973. She received her B.A. from St. John Fisher College in 1987 and her J.D. from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1990, where she received an American Jurisprudence Award for Academic Excellence. Ms. Smith was employed as a registered nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester from 1973 to 1974. She was employed at Rochester General Hospital from 1974 to 1987, working in the medical/surgical intensive care unit. She was also a cardiopulmonary perfusionist during heart/lung machine procedures such as open heart surgery. Ms. Smith’s experience includes a summer internship in 1988 as a law clerk at the Monroe County Department of Social Services Legal Department and a 1989 summer law clerk position at the Monroe County Department of Law where she practiced in the areas of family law, real estate, and the general services department. Prior to her three-year association with the law firm Martin, Ganotis, Brown, Mould & Currie, P.C., where she defended medical malpractice claims, Ms. Smith was a law clerk in the litigation department at the Dayton, Ohio, firm of Jacobson, Maynard, Tuschman & Kalur. Ms. Smith’s professional memberships include the Monroe County Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the American Association of Nurse Attorneys, Inc. Ms. Caruso-Smith’s practice areas include medical malpractice defense, general liability defense, nursing home liability defense, and estate administration and planning.
